CMI Privacy Policy

The Columbia Mountains Institute of Applied Ecology (CMI) wishes to conserve the privacy of personal information gathered from its members and the interested public. Although this information is only used for in-house communication, CMI safeguards this information as detailed below.

Personal Data

CMI generates a membership database of personal information that includes individuals’ affiliations, postal addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. This information comes from solicited user input from the CMI website, telephone, email, or from the postal service. These data are stored on a secure computer that only authorized staff can access. These data are not provided to any third parties.

Protocol for CMI Events

Participant lists for courses, workshops, and conferences are compiled to aid with the delivery of these events. These lists are displayed in hardcopy at the given event to encourage networking. However, no versions will be made available any third party outside of these venues, with the exceptions of the organizing committee for the event, and instructors for a course.

Website and Emailed Updates for Members

The CMI website ( http://www.cmiae.org ) was designed with the primary goal of disseminating information about ecological research within the Columbia Basin.
CMI does not use software that records IP addresses, nor does the site use cookies to transfer data between our server and individual computers.

Abstracts and speaker or instructor contact information (name, affiliation, postal address, and phone number) will be posted within the CMI website. Speakers wishing not to have their contact information posted may choose to do so when submitting their information.

Summaries of CMI events are posted on the CMI website, but these summaries do not include participant lists.

Hyperlinks to other websites are present on the CMI website. Those websites are independent of CMI. Be sure to read their privacy statements before submitting personal information in those locations.

CMI transmits regular email updates to its members via email. This is done through a blind carbon copy process to protect the privacy of each member’s email address.
