ECOLOGICAL
MAPPING
- Forest
Cover Maps
are produced by the
Ministry of Forests in British Columbia. The landscape is
partitioned into polygons, each containing a stand of trees
with roughly the same attributes (i.e., age, height, crown
class). Forest Cover Maps exist for the entire Columbia Forest
District, EXCLUDING
NATIONAL PARKS.
- Terrestrial
Ecosystem Maps (TEM)
DO NOT EXIST FOR THE
ILLECILLEWAET AND BEAVER RIVER WATERSHEDS.
Few watersheds in the Columbia Forest District have TEM maps.
- Ecological
Land Classification (ELC)
is a system of classifying homogeneous landscape areas or
units according to their ecological characteristics. This
system applies to NATIONAL
PARKS ONLY. Factors
such as soils, vegetation, bedrock, drainage class, and
associated wildlife are described.
